Terms of use

Last updated: 6 September 2026

These terms apply when you visit British Church, use its material, contact us, or join the prayer watch. The site is operated by Protheorem Ltd.

The purpose of British Church

British Church exists to encourage sustained Christian prayer for Britain. It is Christian but not party-political. Prayer briefings distinguish biblical conviction from political opinion, and verified fact from speculation.

Prayer commitments

A prayer commitment is a voluntary undertaking, not a paid service or legally enforceable promise. Please choose an hour only when you genuinely intend to pray. Regular commitments must be reconfirmed periodically and may be released if they are not reconfirmed.

An hour may have more than one participant. No person or group owns a prayer slot, and joining an occupied hour does not diminish the existing commitment.

Public prayer names

You may use a first name, nickname, first name and initial, church or prayer-group name, a form such as ‘Angela of Somerset’, or ‘Anonymous’. Do not submit a full personal name, precise address, email address, political slogan, advertisement, impersonation, or content that is abusive, unlawful, defamatory, misleading, or unrelated to prayer.

We may edit, refuse, hide, or remove a public name or commitment where reasonably necessary to protect people, preserve the purpose of the watch, or comply with law.

Consent and age

Joining the watch can reveal Christian religious belief. You will be asked to consent explicitly to the processing needed to administer and publicly display the commitment. At launch, an individual making a public commitment must be at least 18. Children and young people may participate through an adult-led church, family, or prayer-group commitment.

Editorial standards

We will not use prayer as a vehicle for party politics, sensationalism, speculation, or manufactured outrage. Where facts matter, we aim to establish them carefully. Where Christians may legitimately disagree, we aim to say so. Where Scripture speaks plainly, we will not intentionally obscure it.

Not professional or emergency advice

The site provides Christian prayer material and general information. It does not provide medical, legal, financial, counselling, safeguarding, or emergency services. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service.

Accuracy and availability

We take reasonable care over published material, but information may become outdated and uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed. Prayerflashes and links to external sources may be corrected, updated, or removed. Links do not imply responsibility for an external website.

Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website’s original text, design, graphics, and software are owned by or licensed to Protheorem Ltd. You may link to public pages and quote short passages with appropriate attribution. You may not reproduce substantial material, copy the prayer watch, remove attribution, or use the site’s identity commercially without written permission.

Bible passages remain subject to the rights and permissions applicable to the edition identified beside the quotation.

Misuse

You must not interfere with the website, attempt unauthorised access, submit malicious material, scrape personal information, automate false commitments, or use the site to harass, campaign at, or profile participants.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, Protheorem Ltd is not responsible for losses caused by events outside its reasonable control, reliance on general site material as professional advice, or external websites.

Changes and governing law

We may change the site and these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the date above. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you.
