Christians praying for Britain

A continuous prayer watch for our nation

Join Christians across the country in praying for Britain, its people, its institutions, and its future.

Why prayer matters

Throughout history, nations have changed when ordinary people committed themselves to prayer.

This initiative simply asks one thing: that someone, somewhere, is praying for the United Kingdom every hour of the week.

One hour a week is enough to take part.

One faithful hour each week may seem small. Joined with others across the nation, it becomes a continual witness of prayer.

This week’s shared prayer focus

Schools, teachers, pupils, and those responsible for education

Pray that education in Britain will be marked by truth, wisdom, courage, care for children, and respect for every human life.

‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.’Proverbs 9:10

As you pray

  1. For wisdom and integrity among headteachers, teachers, governors, and policymakers.
  2. For children to be protected from harm and taught what is true.
  3. For Christian pupils and staff to live and speak with courage and grace.
  4. For families to be respected in decisions concerning their children.
Use the set prayer

Almighty God, source of all wisdom and truth, have mercy upon the schools of our nation. Give courage and discernment to those who teach, protect every child in their care, and lead pupils into what is good, honest, and true. Strengthen Christian families, teachers, and pupils to serve you faithfully. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

This shared focus helps unite the prayer watch. You are also welcome to pray about any matter concerning Britain that God has placed on your heart.

Prayer before politics

Christian, but not party-political. Clear-eyed, but not sensationalist.

British Church exists to call Christians to faithful, informed prayer for Britain. We distinguish biblical conviction from political opinion, and verified fact from speculation. Christians may pray together without endorsing the same political programme.
